SPEC 44 cableSPEC 44- Powerful with exceptional physical and electrical properties
SPEC 44 - proven cable insulation system easy to handle
The Spec 44 line features double-walled isolation that combines the extraordinary physical and electrical properties of molecularly cross-linked polyalkenes with the outstanding mechanical and chemical properties of molecular cross-linked polyvinyl fluoride (PVDF). The result is a line insulation system that has a temperature range up to 150 ° C, a small diameter, light weight, solder iron resistance and resistance to most, solvents, fuels and lubricants.
The Spec 44 cables and cables are highly flame retardant, infusible and cold flow resistant. They are mechanically strong, easy to handle and easy to process with conventional tools. In airframe wiring, Spec 44 designs provide advanced replacement solutions for PVC / Nylon and glass-braided cables. Spec 44 leads are available in a wide range of sizes - both stranded and solid, with standard designs of tinned and silvered copper or high strength copper alloy.

Physical Properties
Small diameter
The Spec 44 cable with a rated voltage of 600 V has a wall thickness of 0.19 mm nom. 0.25 mm and Industry Military / Aerospace Lloyd's Register of Shipping 0.38 mm for equivalent PTFE and PVC cables in MIL-W-16878 and MIL-W-22759 or BS 3G210.
Low weight
Due to the low wall thickness and the low density of the materials considerable weight savings are achieved compared to similar PTFE lines with the same rated voltage. Eg: A 44A0111-AWG22 switch cable weighs 4.45 g / m max. An AWG22 PTFE switching cable according to MIL-W-22759 weighs 5.54 g / m max.
General processing
The flexibility of the Spec 44 cable and the ease with which it can be laid make it the easiest to install high performance cable. The stripping is done with conventional stripping tool. The tinned conductor, which is mainly used, is easy to solder or crimp. The insulation can be easily printed and requires no etching treatment before casting.
lengths
Spec 44 cables are available in long lengths and can be supplied for processing with automatic cutting and stripping machines.

environmental properties
Operating temperature range
Spec 44 cables and cables can be used in temperature ranges from -65 ° C to +150 ° C and for a short time at temperatures up to +300 ° C. Thermal aging tests are performed periodically at temperatures of +200 ° C (168 h) and +300 ° C (6 h). There is no shrinkage of the cable insulation despite repeated heat cycles.
Chemical resistance
Molecularly crosslinked Spec 44 leads are highly resistant to many acids, bases, hydrocarbon based solvents, fuels, lubricants, water, many rocket propellants and oxidizers.
Mechanical properties
Spec 44 cables offer a better notch cut resistance than some cables with larger wall thicknesses. A 600V 44A0111 shunt with 0.19mm wall thickness has a 40% higher value than a 600V PTFE shunt with 0.25mm wall thickness.
Soldering iron / overload resistance
Due to the molecular crosslinking of the insulation, cables according to Spec 44 are infusible even at high temperatures. As a result, this line is very resistant to prolonged contact with soldering iron and has optimum protection in the event of overloading, while thermoplastic insulation would melt.
cold flow
The molecular crosslinking of the Spec 44 pipe prevents the cold flow of the insulation - a recognized problem for materials without cross-linking.
Low outgassing
For space applications, special Spec 44 constructions with low outgassing properties are available for use in high vacuum and high temperatures.
nominal voltage
The rated voltages for Spec 44 leads are 600 V for 0.19 mm wall thickness, 1000 V for 0.28 mm wall thickness and 2500 V for 0.48 mm wall thickness.
Resistance to arcing
The Spec 44 insulation provides complete resistance to arcing under dry and wet conditions at aircraft operating voltages.
